First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin Highlights Chesterfield’s 50% Drop inFentanyl Deaths
A Powerful Example of the “It Only Takes One Initiative in Action”.
During Mental Health Awareness Month, the First Lady continues work on hard conversations focused on substance use and the dangers of fentanyl. Recently, in Chesterfield County, First Lady Suzanne S. Youngkin joined Virginia State Health Commissioner Dr. Karen Shelton and community leaders to spotlight the county’s inspiring progress in the fight against fentanyl. Through her statewide It Only Takes One initiative, the First Lady continues to champion prevention, education, and recovery across Virginia.
Thanks to community-led programs and strong partnerships, Chesterfield has reduced fentanyl overdose deaths by nearly 50% since 2023—a powerful reminder that it only takes one conversation, one resource, or one leader to save a life.
