Youth Opioid Prevention and Education

Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act (CARA)

The Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act Grant funded by the CDC was awarded to SAFE in June 2021. With this grant, we target 12 to 18-year-olds to educate youth on the dangers of opioid abuse/misuse and to reduce underage opioid use. The two strategies under this grant are the Opioid Abuse/Misuse Video PSA and the Stay Smart Assembly. The video PSA is a youth-created project to air on TV, digital streaming platforms, Facebook, Twitch, Instagram, and Snapchat. The Stay Smart Assembly is a 6th grade assembly in all Chesterfield County Public Schools to raise awareness and understanding of opioid addiction and other drugs.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2021 PSA media contest!
