Bandfest
So you're not in a band and not into creating videos or t-shirt designs. Well, those are only part of SAFE’s signature Bandfest event. Somebody’s got to plan it, right? Take a leadership role. Help put your stamp on the event. Help recruit bands, judge band auditions and video and t-shirt design submissions, determine the activities, plan the staging, promote the event to your friends, take pictures at the event, volunteer the day of the event. Maybe even be the MC. To help in planning or volunteering the day of the event, contact Beth Clements at Youth Planning and Development at 804-796-7141 or clementsb@chesterfield.gov.

Underage buyer
Are you committed to living “above the influence”? Do you want a safer community for your peers? Are you composed and confident? Partner with SAFE and the Chesterfield police as an underage buyer in compliance checks of retail outlets that sell alcohol. You’ll be trained by the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and work with Chesterfield undercover police officers.
The benefit to you? A small stipend for your time and the satisfaction of knowing that you may be preventing some of your peers from buying alcohol and ending up hurt in a fight, injured in a car wreck or sexually assaulted by someone under the influence. If you’re interested contact us.

Mentor younger kids
You know what alcohol and other drugs can do to your brain, right? You know how younger kids look up to older kids. Help point kids in the right direction by participating in SAFE’s peer mentoring program. High school kids will interact with kids in fifth and eighth grades – those grades when kids begin getting anxious about moving on to middle or high school because suddenly they’ll be at the bottom of the pecking order instead of the top.
Learn how to talk to them to about the effects of alcohol and drugs on their brain and how to make a good transition into middle or high school. You can share how to stand strong in the face of negative peer pressure and create positive peer pressure for doing right and having fun. If interested, contact us.

Serve on the Underage Drinking Task Force
Members of the Underage Drinking Task Force are the brains behind all SAFE’s underage drinking initiatives. They look at survey and other data gathered from youth to determine what’s happening, develop a plan of action and figure out how to get it moving. The adults in that group need teens to keep them on track. In fact, for the last three years the chairman of the group has been a teen. The task force meets once a month in the late afternoons. If you’re interested, contact us.

Serve on the SAFE Board of Directors
If you want to learn how a coalition works, consider serving on the SAFE board of directors. SAFE has always had youth members on its board. This is a great opportunity to learn how organizations work. It looks good on a college resume’ too. If you’re interested, contact us.
